XP Deus frequencies explained

As we have mentioned earlier the XP Deus has a choice of 4 operating frequencies in just one search coil.
Choosing the correct operating frequenvy can play a very important part of successful detecting, so let’s talk about the top four key features to be aware of when choosing an operating frequency.

Target size
Do you have a specific target you are searching for ? Higher frequencies can be more bias to small targets.
Example : If you’re searching for small ancient coins 17Khz will be a good choice, if you are searching a park and there is lots of small foil 17Khz may not be ideal.
Lower frequencies such as 4Khz or 8Khz can give better depth on larger targets, especially if combined with a slower reactivity.
Target orientation
It has been proved that target orientation plays a big part in successful detecting with VLF machines, even shallow targets of mass can sound like iron if the orientation is a certain way, using a lower frequency can overcome these problems.
Soil conditions
Mineralization and soil conditions play an important part, 18Khz will work very well on dry fluffy soil that has just been ploughed or rolled, lower frequencies can work well on damp soil.
High frequencies are used for nugget hunting as Gold is normally found in highly mineralized ground, pay attention to your mineralization bar on the right hand side of your screen while searching, this can give you a good indication of your soil conditions. (see ground balance).
*TIP : Mineralization can be a normal geological thing, it can also be a sign of ancient habitation.
EMI
Electrical Magnetic interference, this is caused by electrical sources such as other detectors, radio masts, house appliances, pin point probes, mobile phones. If you are experiencing EMI try shifting frequencies, either slightly shift your operating frequency via the expert setting or change to another operating frequency.
